A late crop of peas has germinated well in the warm soil - the mice are probably otherwise engaged with plenty of sunflower seeds.

Red hot

Sweet

Nothing sweeter than a beetroot, not even a windfall apple, autumn raspberry or corn on the cob. Yet people pickle them!?

Short and sweet

The plum season's here. Blink and you'll miss it. In a couple of weeks they'll all be gone. The plop of ripe fruit falling to the ground serves as an audible reminder.

Unsurprisingly, basil's done very well in the hot weather this year. It seems to prefer living in pots rather than in the open ground.

Glut

  Welcome glut of tomatoes. No signs of blight. Fresh passata daily.

Never enough

You can never grow enough onions, but this crop isn't going to last long. They're not much bigger than they were when they started out.

In the net

I needed a bit of help, because a human put some netting in the way.

The dwarf kale's doing well in the spot where the early pea crop was.

Tassels turning

The tassels on the sweetcorn are turning brown as the cobs ripen and it's time to put some stout netting up as protection against birds and possibly badgers and rats.

Later than usual, but the sweet peas are finally blooming, providing nasal delight, in contrast to the stench of a nearby comfrey brew.

Out now

The hot weather's suited the echinacea well, but now the flowers are out, the sun's gone in.

Lettuce thin

Might be no need to thin out these lettuce seedlings if the slugs and snails get there first but the dry weather's kept their numbers down.

Tassel no hassle

The tassels are emerging from the end of the sweetcorn cobs as they begin to fatten up, aided by regular watering.

Traffic light toms

                         From green, through yellow, to red.

Underipe

A few underipe tomatoes, harvested early to ripen on the kitchen windowsill. Borlotti and french beans delicious and plentiful.
