Later than usual, but the sweet peas are finally blooming, providing nasal delight, in contrast to the stench of a nearby comfrey brew.

Underipe

A few underipe tomatoes, harvested early to ripen on the kitchen windowsill. Borlotti and french beans delicious and plentiful.

Blooming late

The sweet peas are still producing flowers this late in the year (one plant's only just getting going) but the late ones will remain unpicked, hopefully to provide seed for next year.

The colour of autumn

Into October and the sweet peas are still flowering, which is unusual. Any remaining colour at this time of year is welcome, before it all goes black and white. More pointless gourds, useful lettuce and tasty beets.

Sowed half a dozen early sweet peas with seeds saved from last year. There didn't seem much need to soak them overnight as most of them had started sprouting already.
