       The first week of July and right on time the lily buds open.

A long time coming, over in a flash and a bit blousey, but lilies are always worth it, especially the evening scented varieties.

Lily-like Funk

Surprised by the emergence of this hosta flower, looking lily-like and emitting a similar perfume. Turns out that they're also known as plantain lilies and Funkia, in honour of botanist Heinrich Funk.

Lily Bloom

A welcome end to the June rainy season and some sunshine to bring out the first lilies, which, if the forecast is correct, won't get spoiled by a prolonged downpour any time soon.

I suppose lilies are a bit blousy really. It's the first year I've grown them. The bulbs appear to have come complete with lily beetle larvae which hatched and nibbled the emerging leaves.
