Underipe

A few underipe tomatoes, harvested early to ripen on the kitchen windowsill. Borlotti and french beans delicious and plentiful.

These borlotti beans are best eaten fresh, not the whole pod, like runner beans and very early broad beans, but green and plump (despite the colour of the pod) like late broad beans.

           A good store of dried beans to use as seed for next year.

Transplant transport

Today's tricky-to-transport seedling for transplanting is the borlotti bean.

The riper ones are prettier, like aniseed balls, but it's not immediately apparent from the outside what you'll find on the inside.

Sowed some very early borlotti beans a week or two ago, which I planted out under glass.



Same with the broad beans, which are better suited to colder weather, although the ones I planted last autumn are in a right state. Just as well I've got a fresh couple of dozen to supplement them with.
